We first began looking for a house in the fall of 2000. We were living in a two-bedroom apartment in Maryland and realized that we were paying just as much for rent as we would pay for a mortgage. I had just become pregnant with our second child and we were itching to become homeowners in Washington, DC.

Our search was not an easy one. We put several contracts down on houses in Washington, DC. Each time, we thought for sure that we had found the one. As each one of those contracts fell through, Auntie Ansa assured us that we would find something and to not give up hope.

Auntie Ansa went into action, as usual. One Friday night about two weeks later, she called us to say that she had found a house that had just come on the market that day and that we needed to move on it.
